In 2003, they expanded their services to include installation of custom made acrylic bathtubs and wall surrounds. In 2005, they began offering consumers a unique and affordable solution to the bathtub conversion with a new product called the Safeway Step. Although the business was originally known for its bathtub resurfacing, today Surface Solutions offers additional services which provide the customer with a number of solutions to revamping a multitude of various surfaces. As previously indicated, Surface Solutions has been operating in the Sioux City, Iowa area for ten years. However, many people are unaware of all the benefits of their products and services. Therefore, Surface Solutions is providing answers to their most frequently asked questions.
What is resurfacing?
Resurfacing is a system by which a very durable, high tech coating is applied over an existing surface without removal or replacement, giving it a new appearance.
Is resurfacing just for bathtubs?
No, resurfacing works beautifully on a variety of surfaces. Besides cast iron, fiberglass and steel bathtubs, Surface Solutions resurfaces cabinets, tile, countertops and showers.
Why resurface?
Resurfacing saves money. Typically, resurfacing is as much as 75 percent less expensive than replacement. In addition, custom colors are available to complement any decorating scheme. Most people choose to resurface because the color is outdated, the surface has been damaged, or the surface has become dull and worn over time. Resurfacing also is convenient and time-saving. With the exception of cabinets, most other specified items can be resurfaced within 48 hours and ready to use within 48 hours or sooner when Surface Solutions uses special curing procedures.
How durable is the finish?
Because of technological advances over the past 20 years, the resurfacing products used by Surface Solutions are extremely durable. Unlike European coatings, the resin used by Surface Solutions provides a surface that is harder than acrylic or enamel, yet extremely flexible. Its resilience is essential to its durability and long wear. In addition, the resin will not crack or yellow. It provides terrific stain resistance and color retention.
How long will it last?
With proper care and maintenance, the average consumer can expect the finish to last 10 to15 years. Just like the original finish, if the surface is improperly cared for and abused, it will dull and deteriorate over time. However, unlike the old finish, the Surface Solutions finish can be repaired at a minimal cost if damaged.

Is there a warranty?
Because Surface Solutions uses superior performing products, they confidently offer a five-year warranty against product and/or workmanship failure.
What is cabinet refacing?
Refacing is a process of renewing cabinets by removing old doors and drawer fronts. The cabinet face frames are then resurfaced with prefinished wood veneer and the bottoms and sides of the cabinets with prefinished plywood. Ultimately, new doors and drawer fronts are installed.
What are the advantages of resurfacing or refacing kitchen cabinets?
While avoiding the disruption caused by a conventional cabinet replacement job, kitchen cabinet resurfacing or refacing can be completed in a few days, for a fraction of the cost of replacement. Generally cabinet resurfacing is about 20 percent of the cost of traditional remodeling while cabinet refacing is about 50 percent less than complete cabinet replacement.
What are the reasons for considering installation of an acrylic liner?
As an alternative to replacement or resurfacing, Surface Solutions' custom made acrylic bathtubs and wall surrounds are installed over existing bathtubs and walls without tearing up the existing plumbing or surrounding wall area. Secondly, Surface Solutions' liners are the thickest and highest quality in the industry. The durable acrylic surfaces will not chip, dent, crack or peel. Thirdly, an acrylic liner may be the only economically feasible replacement alternative for bathtubs that are severely damaged or deteriorated. Finally, installing an acrylic liner may be more appropriate in places subject to heavy use such as hotels and apartments.
What is the Safeway Step?
It is a slip resistant step that is installed on the front side of an existing bathtub regardless of whether it's made of fiberglass, steel, or cast iron. It is accomplished by removing a portion of the front side of the bathtub and installing the step. It is a tub-to-shower conversion that provides individuals, particularly the elderly, or the handicapped, a safer entry into a bathtub/shower area.
